From: simahoyo <simahoyo@blarg.net>

As you can see I have a rather big list of people I have been
sending things out to, so I started a Seattle Xenites Against Censorship
list. Those already on XAC@onelist.com are REALLY encouraged to stay on
that list as well, this also applys to the PNW Xenite list.
If you want to stay on contact about local plans to get,"The Way"
reinstated, please email sxac-subscribe@onelist.com. Just send a blamk
email, you are on, and I don't have to type in so many addys :-)

Hi All,

Well, after the quietest day we have had on XAC, I thought it would be a
good time to make a post.

Quite a lot of work has been done to improve and update the XAC Information
Index.

http://www.poky.net/xac.html

It presently covers 6 April through 25 April 1999. The Index contains the
majority of the posts to XAC since it's beginning on the 6th of April. The
emails are listed by subject and date of posting, with the most recent posts
at the top. The XAC information index is designed to serve as a resource
for all members of the list and others who are interested in the development
of the protest against censorship or looking for ways to write letters,
circulate petitions, and much, much more. One of the new sections, Spreading
the Word, contains many interesting ideas and suggested ways to gain support
for the battle against censorship and the return of The Way to the XWP
schedule.
At present the categories include:

I very much would appreciate any comments on the page and suggestions for
changes or improvements. I am also interested in getting more information
on websites supporting the fight against censorship. The XAC Information
Index is designed to compliment other protest websites and provide a
resource for all. At present I am working on the "Special Posts and
Information Section" for the opening page. It features items submitted to me
by list members to be featured on this page. If you would like to have
material included, please send me an email.

Thanks to each and all,

I think this sounds like a great idea! I have a Guestbook that I can
invoke on my web page for just this sort of thing.

Announcement of the creation of the "XAC List Index"

http://www.poky.net/xac.html

The XAC List Index is designed as a support page for the Xenites Against
Censorship mailing list.
The page contains a collection of selected posts to the XAC list. It is
presented to provide a point of reference for persons seeking information
about the movement to combat censorship of Xena Warrior Princess. I have
reviewed all emails from almost the start of the list (Yup I have and my
eyes still work). I have endeavored to collect those emails that contained
facts and ideas most relevant to the basic concerns of our membership. At
present most of the emails presented cover events from the 6th through 9th
of April, but there are several emails from the past few days.

Please bear with me as I try to build the index, it is very much a work in
progress. In fact I was going to wait a bit before I posted, but decided
that the Index provides a needed resource, particularly for new members.
The emails are divided into the following categories:

Letter Suggestions
Letters Sent to Media
Media Responses

Media Actions
Lisa Tsering Articles
Prior Protests

Information on Religions
Xena Protest Book
Petitions

Tapes
Media & Key Addresses
Website Information

Letters to Hindu Protestors
Hindu Supporters of Xena
Views and Opinions

Renaissance Pictures Comments

When I stated the project I knew that it would be a major endeavor and am
sort of still dazed by the whole process. Any comments or suggestions on
format, topics, or content would be appreciated. Please feel free to link
to the page.

I am adding a special section for links to all pages containing information
on the censorship movement. I have the addies for the most commonly
referenced pages, but know there are those I do not know about. Please send
me the addies of your pages so I can add them. I have been working with Dan
to maintain the XAC list and feel that the Index is a natural place for a
complete list of the addies both for Anti-Censorship pages and to identify
webmasters/webmistresses who support our goals.

Please contact me directly on with any information or suggestions at:

http://www.poky.net/xac.html or jacdau2@poky.interspeed.net

I also have articles -- and go looking for new ones daily. I have links to all the WVA and AHAD, VINA and VNN stuff, in a section apart from the media coverage of the event (articles from February until now) and the counter-protest, and I'm linking to Becky's pages of Dr. Palat's articles (if that's ok). There's alot more than that - but basically I'm kind of tinkering around behind the scenes every day, making small changes, and trying to update as often as possible.

I keep meaning to ask - does anyone have a page up that describes the The Way in detail? Or has the televised screenplay? That might be a big attraction. I thought about doing this. It would help lots of folks who won't see The Way (and who as a result can't get the grasp on it in context of this counter movement, like those of us who have seen it), both fans, public and large, press, and curious organizations that visit our site network. I've seen people put up these things, PNW being one of them (they archive the televised scripts), but I don't know if that's viable for copyright's sake or not.

Count us in Kit!!
We have several articles up--Dr.Palat's and Lisa Tsering's- so we could act
as a mirror site if needed. We also have several other articles showing
how the counterprotest is growing, Rob's letter and some other things.
Also have major links in place. We will be revising and upgrading today.

This has already been done. See:
http://www.tsoft.com/~cmwilson/ProtestCensorship.html

Start by signing the petition.

Then browse down to StudiosUSA, where you will find addresses of
all the people to write to. Phone and fax numbers are there too.

The Local Stations page has lots of e-mail addresses for local
stations. Just click on the e-mail address and you can send
your message right from that page. Write up a short generic
letter and paste it into the e-mails. It's easy.

At this point it is probably most important to contact StudiosUSA
and the local stations.

There are also pages of contacts for the Gay and Lesbian Press,
the entertainment press, the mainstream press, gay and lesbian
organizations, and links to other websites that are joining in
the protest.

There are also articles and links to articles about the protest
and the counter-protest.

I have added a list of Free Speech and Civil Liberties
organizations to my protest page. These folks may or
may not be interested in non-government censorship
issues, but it can't hurt to find out.

It also can't hurt to post the URL of the petition to
other mailing lists where they may be people who will
support us on either the homophobia or censorship
issues.

From: "Catherine M. Wilson" <cmwilson@wildestdreams.org>

For the folks who are new to the list, the information Arianne
has asked for is on the Protest Censorship page at:

http://www.tsoft.com/~cmwilson/ProtestCensorship.html

On this page you will find links to pages about the three
Hindu groups that protested 'The Way'. The Tusta Krishnadas
group is The World Vaisnava Organization (WVA).

There is a warning on that page, and please go to the
XAC page and read the warning there very carefully before
you contact these people. It may be dangerous, and probably
won't do much good, to contact the WVA, because they don't
care what we think. They are religious zealots who know
they're right and everyone else is wrong.

Sunil Aghi, who is already a bit fed up with the other
protesters, is a better bet, as is the AHAD organization.

Please read the articles linked from the articles page.
In them you will find the information you need to figure
out who's who. This is a complicated situation.

The articles page is at:
http://www.tsoft.com/~cmwilson/ListOfArticles.html

The first article gives an excellent overview of the whole
situation.

Hey fellow Xenites Against Censorship!

Just completed a kind of "where did this thing come from and where is it
going" kind of page. I like to base my knowledge of facts, documents, and
such, so the page has good links too. It was created as much for me as
anyone else, just to have a lot of selected stuff on the controversy put
together on one page. That's it. Thank you and goodnight.

If anyone needs a tape of The Way, you can get one through
the World Vaisnava Association. Yep, they're *selling*
the tape. Ten bucks.

http://www.vnn.org/usa/US9903/US03-3225.html

I have been updating my Protest Censorship page almost
hourly. There are new links to the Entertainment Media
(let's get ET on this) and the Gay and Lesbian Press.

I also have a link to Rooks' page of protest graphics.
The blue ribbon is now a symbol of the protest against
censorship of The Way. Grab one for your website here:
http://www.geocities.com/Athens/Oracle/4865/censorship_images.html

Maybe we should think about mainstream news media,
like 60 Minutes, 20/20, Dateline, USA Today. Does
anyone have their contact information?

My protest page is at:

http://www.tsoft.com/~cmwilson/ProtestCensorship.html

You can do a lot of protesting with very little effort
from this page. Click on e-mail addresses to send
e-mail. Click on links to websites to fill out
feedback forms. For those with more time, there are
snail mail addresses, but protesting just can't get
any easier than this. Please take a few minutes to
send a note to an affiliate or phone the program
manager of your local affiliate.

There are reports that the affiliates are denying that
they pressured the studio. Some of them probably
haven't, but if they say that, ask them to contact the
studio and lend their support to the voices of the fans
who want to see The Way returned to syndication. If
you ask them to do something, they'll have to give you
an answer.

Feel free to post this message to other lists and
newsgroups.
